Meet the funny, spunky, bubbly, outgoing, adventurous, sweet, drop-dead gorgeous, living her best life, senior from Metamora Township High School, Skylar Garey!! She had me at “hello” 🤗 Only 13 more days until her senior year starts.. not like she’s counting or anything!
After high school, she plans on attending ISU to pursue a major in Education. She has had ambitions to be an elementary school teacher since she was a little girl. This year, Skylar is most looking forward to football season. “I love the whole atmosphere that Friday Night Lights brings at our school. I’m also a football cheerleader, and I want my last football season in high school to be the best get!!” Her favorite teacher was her 7th grade English teacher, Mr. Bevard. “Mr. Bevard taught us more than just English, but life skills and advice that will carry over in the future. English is my favorite subject because I love to write, except not research papers… those suck!” Her favorite school events are hands down.. Prom and Homecoming because, “because I absolutely love to dance and being with my friends. Plus having an excuse to dress up is always fun!!”
Skylar is a super busy girl; besides being a Football Cheerleader, she is also a Basketball Cheerleader and participates in track. She was a part of All-Star Competitive Cheer Team for three years at Titanium Force Cheer in East Peoria and she helped the coach the Cheer Disabilities Team as well. Skylar had the ultimate experience this year.. one of her proudest moments would have to be winning the 2019 Summit Championship in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports with her amazing team and “it’s truly something that I will NEVER forget!”
Skylar gives some of the best advice ever to incoming high school freshman? “eat all the ice cream the cafeteria has because it’s honestly some of the best, failing a test or forgetting a homework assignment is not the end of the world, don’t be scared of upper classmen because chances are you’re never going to see half of them in the future anyways, Don’t take any of it for granted because these 4 years are going to be some of the fastest years of your life.”
I asked Skylar to describe her “perfect” day and this is what she said! “First things first, when I would wake up the sun would be shining so bright and the sky would be as blue as ever. the birds would be chirping and my window would be just cracked enough to feel a nice summer breeze on my skin, because in the summer time you don’t have to sleep with a comforter on. I would get out of bed and go to workout, and come back and make the best omelet ever with fresh fruit on the side. After I’m done eating, I would go upstairs into my room and change into a bathing suit and go over to my friends house and lay out by the pool and soak up the sun. All of us there would be listening to music and talking, and of course we would be eating food. Once I felt like leaving, I would come back home, take a shower, and put on some clean clothes. I would go to dinner with all my friends, preferably Monical’s, and then go and get Emo’s for dessert. Later in the night all of us would hop into one of our cars and just drive around on all the country roads around town, with the windows down and music blaring, just screaming the lyrics at the top of our lungs because that’s what summer is all about.. that’s my perfect day!” :)))
