Averie Reed | Class of 2021 | Dee-Mack High School

October 5, 2020

Meet Averie Reed, Class of 2021 senior from Dee-Mack High School.  We had the best time photographing this beauty’s senior session and even jumped in Heritage Lake for some fun photos at the end because this is where she has created so many memories over the years!  If only you could have seen us trying to figure out how to keep our clamshell float stay in place while snapping the shot while Averie posed on a soft moving object. oh the adventures we have!!

Averie would describe her personality as laid-back, bubbly, optimistic, and very clumsy, LOL!  She plans on attending college after graduation from high school but she’s not sure where or what major quite yet. “I’m interested in the medical field as well as psychology and I ultimately want to attend the University of Missouri but I don’t know yet.”

Averie’s favorite teacher is her P.E. teacher, Mr. Jackson. “He is always their for his students and when we need to talk, he offers the best advice. My favorite class is English class, because it’s my favorite subject. I enjoy writing especially! I’ve heard people say you’re either a Math person or an English person, I’d say i’m definitely more of an English person!”

Her favorite school event is homecoming week. She loves seeing her hallways decorated, dressing up for theme week, Powderpuff football, and all of the competitions against the other classes. And of course, the dance. “I love getting all fancy and dancing with my friends.”  Averie participates in track and National Honors Society. She also volunteers at TAPS Animal Shelter and the Special Olympics.  Her hobbies include hanging out at the lake, especially in the summer time. “My best friend and I love kayaking, pontoon boating, and just floating out!”

Food and Family:

  1. The most unusual thing I have ever eaten is Alligator
  2. My favorite holiday is the 4th of July and my favorite holiday tradition is on Thanksgiving.  After dinner has been served and finished, my cousins, brother, and I go to BassPro shop to get our picture taken with Santa, haha! Also, every Christmas Eve my girl cousin and I get matching pajama sets – as soon as everyone is done opening presents we put them on!
  3. My hero is my grandma because she is so funny and so sweet. She reminds me to enjoy the simple things in life and to always be kind no matter what. As I grow older, I realize how much of a hard worker she has been and always will be. I appreciate her and everything she does!
  4. My favorite family trip was to Gulf Shores during spring break one year. My family and two other families rented a huge house right on the beach that we all stayed in! It was so fun to stay with so many people and have free range of the private beach. Definitely an adventure I’ll never forget.
  5. My favorite childhood memory is playing in the woods with my childhood best friend. We never got bored in the woods and loved to explore every inch of it. We would spend days on end out there building forts, making pathways, and getting dirty!
  6. My grandmother who is Vietnamese makes a soup called Pho. It’s unique and delicious an it reminds me of her!
  7. If I could eat only one meal for the rest of my life, it would be Chick-Fil-A sandwiches
  8. The best thing about my mom and my dad is how much they’ve prepared me for the world. I used to think they were hard on me, but now I’ve realized why it seemed to be that way. They taught me how to work hard to reach my goals, how to be independent, how to be proper and polite, and that sometimes things won’t always go my way. As I complete my senior year and move onto college, I can truly say I’m capable of living by myself and away from my family no matter how hard it may be. I can’t thank my parents enough for giving me these skills.

Three things on my bucket list: Travel outside the country, live in the city, and adopt a dog!

Random Fun Facts:

  1. What advice would you give incoming high school freshman? Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore your options. Don’t feel glued to the same people you’ve always been with, and feel free to make decisions based on what you want – not your friends. Things change all the time in high school, and it’s best to follow your own path!
  2. One of my proudest moments was saving a stray kitten. A couple of my classmates found a kitten and didn’t know what to do with it. So, my friend and I picked her up and I took care of her for a bit. Realizing I couldn’t keep her, I posted on social media that she needed a nice home, and someone responded! It made me so happy that I took part in saving her life and finding her a happy family to thrive in.
  3. I love meeting new people!
  4. I love all types of music and genres. I love listening to Post Malone and Thomas Rhett
  5. I would love to travel to Hawaii. I’ve always wanted to go there, it looks beautiful! It would be amazing to experience the tropical weather and lifestyle.
  6. The most daring thing I have ever done is cliff jumping into a lake at Fugitive Beach
  7. I love the city life and feeling surrounded by large amounts of people. One of the reasons why I want to go to a big college
  8. Do you have a nickname? Ave
  9. Favorite fashion trend? Animal print and Came!
  10. Why did you choose Shelby Photography? The picture quality is amazing. I love how bright and happy everything looks. I love the backgrounds and creativity out into each pictures. I also like how it’s unique to them and includes their likes and interests.

My “perfect day” would be sleeping in late, then putting on a swim suit and heading straight to the beach. I would lay out under the sun, work on my tan, and float out on the waves with my family and friends all day long!
