Stephanie Bennett | Class of 2019 Senior Washington Community High School

July 15, 2018

“I’m in WLCS and Art Club at the high school, I’m going to begin running track again this year and I participate in color guard during my sophomore and junior year, I’m one of the only girls in the schools automotive program and I’m very proud of that, I attend church and youth group at Richwoods Church.  My favorite teacher is Mr. Schermerhorn because he is so passionate about what he does and what he teaches. He loves life every day no matter what and always comes in with a smile.  After high school, I plan on attending St. Ambrose University to major in Accounting and Business!  Advice to incoming freshman: “Take fun electives you normally wouldn’t try and be active in school!”

Meet the lovely, bubbly, fun-loving, Class of 2019 senior from WCHS, Stephanie Bennett!  Her family called her Stephie (love that!) She loves going on adventures and having a lot of fun with friends and family.  Some of her hobbies include drawing and going to car shows.  A random fact: “I am EXTREMELY clumsy!”

If Stephanie could describe her “perfect day”, she would wake up and go to breakfast followed by hiking or rock climbing or some kind of outdoor adventure. The day would end with a nap in a hammock and a big steak dinner!

I asked Stephanie to name her hero and she said, “My dad, ever since my mom passed away my dad has been the biggest person in my life and he is such a strong person. My dad always makes sure that my brother and I are happy and being taken care of even if it means putting our needs/wants in front of his.”

Three things on Stephanie’s bucket list include 1. Going skydiving 2. Riding an elephant BUT is has to be completely humane. Not one of the attractions where the animals are used and abused.  I love animals and elephants are my favorite. 3. Go surfing, I’ve always wanted to try that!

Here are some of Stephanie’s favorite and fun facts:

  1. The most unusual thing she has ever eaten is lobster. “I’m a very picky eater!”
  2. The most daring thing ever done: Climbing a rock waterfall in Jamaica
  3. If she could travel anywhere in the world, “I would love to go to this animal shelter in Costa Rica which is basically this large field with over 2,000 stray dogs. I love dogs.”
  4. Favorite holiday – Thanksgiving
  5. Favorite holiday tradition – “My Grandma Brinker always made these cookies for Christmas and I would always help her make them and frost them”
  6. Favorite singers or bands: “My music taste is all over the place. My favorite songs at the moment are Dirt on boots by Jon pardi, Bella by Wolfine, myself by bazzi and also mine by him, Hey there Delilah, No Scrubs, and similar songs.”
  7. Favorite family trip – “Jamaica, my dad and I went on a cruise and the views there were absolutely amazing and everyone their was so kind and caring and also AMAZING food.”
  8. Childhood memory – “When I was younger I went on a road trip to California with my mom and her friend and I have always wanted to go back since”
  9. Family recipe – “My Grandma Brinkers Lacey cookies. Thin and chewy and oh so delicious.”
  10. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Anything chicken, I loveee chicken.
