Alysa Bort | Class of 2021 graduate | Washington Community High School

May 12, 2021

Meet Alysa Bort, Class of 2021 senior from Washington Community High School!  Today was her very last day of high school and she graduates this weekend.  Alysa is one of the kindest person you could ever meet!  Super smart, talkative, outgoing, caring, and always willing to help others. She loves being spontaneous and loves being with her friends.

This fall, she plans on attending ICC and then plans on transferring to a University to study Law. She has wanted to be a lawyer for as long as she could remember.  Her favorite high school teacher was Mrs. Cassulo because she always kept the class fun and was very straight forward.  Alysa’s favorite classes were always math because she always enjoys when there is a definite answer to a problem and working through math problems always has a specific process.  In school, she participated in Colorguard and WLCS

Her favorite school events were marching band competitions. “I loved the bus rides there and back where I bonded  with my friends and team and I love the feeling of performing on big fields (especially U of I!).”

Alysa works at Chick-Fil-A in East Peoria. “I have worked there for almost two and a half years and work just about every day! I love the connections I have made there and wouldn’t trade my coworkers for anything.”  In March, she was  promoted to Team Leader and recognized for her hard work and great energy that she brought to her team!

Alysa and her family are animal lovers.  She has two dogs named Bear and Bandit. They love to play non-stop. She also has two cats named Leo and Casper.  “Casper is about 9 years old and my aunt rescued him and his siblings. He’s a white/grey mix and SO fluffy. We adopted Leo from Taps in January, and he’s a tabby cat. He gets ahold of all my brother’s toys and finds a way to play with them.”
“My hero is my mom. I know that I don’t show her that I appreciate her as much as I should, but she keeps everything running in my family’s life, and we wouldn’t know what to do without her.  She is strong and has taught me the value of self-worth.  My  favorite thing about my dad is his great sense of humor. He always jokes around when I have friends over and makes the best out of bad situations through making people laugh.”

Three things on my bucket list: 1. Go on a cruise 2. See the Northern Lights 3. Visit every US State.

“On my “perfect day”, I would wake up watching the sunrise on the beach, eat pancakes and bacon (and drink coffee of course) with my family and spend the day with them outside, and then hang out with my friends all night!”

Her favorite school events were marching band competitions. “I loved the bus rides there and back where I bonded  with my friends and team and I love the feeling of performing on big fields (especially U of I!).”

Alysa’s hobbies include sewing and traveling!

  1. If I could eat only one meal for the rest of my life, it would be a Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich (no pickles, but add American cheese) with a side of Mac n cheese and a Hi-C!
  2. My favorite candy is Reese’s, Airheads, and Skittles.
  3. My favorite drink is the biggest iced coffee possible
  4. The most unusual thing I have ever eaten is Alligator
  5. My great grandma’s Mac n cheese is my favorite family recipe. It’s been in the family for years and we make it for about every holiday, so it always reminds me of good times.
  6. Chili’s is my favorite restaurant. I go between chicken crispers, pasta, or a burger
  7. Favorite ice cream flavor – cookie dough
  8. Favorite snack – hot Cheetos
  9. Favorite dessert – anything with cinnamon. I love coffee cake.

Favorite moment my senior year:  This year I was able to have some extra time in person with my friends. I’m grateful that I was able to have any in person time. Specifically, being able to sit in the student section for a few football games. I have never been able to do this because I’ve always marched with the band.  It was a great experience!

“My favorite holiday is Christmas. All of our holiday traditions revolve around Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we always go to Great Grandma’s house for dinner with the family and open presents together. It’s a great bonding time with some family I don’t see as often. Then, I always get special Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve!”

My favorite colors are yellow and purple!

I love country music. I have loved Luke Bryan my whole life and got to meet him when I was little.  Otherwise my favorite artist is Khalid.

“My favorite family trip is going to Florida every year for Spring Break. I love going to all our regular spots and spending well-deserved time on the beach!  My favorite childhood memory is Hanging out with my neighborhood friends and playing in the pond we have out back, we spent countless summer days exploring it and swimming in it.”

What have you learned most about yourself this year?  “I’ve learned that I have to embrace who I am and not care what anyone else thinks. This has pushed me into leadership at work as well as figuring out exactly the people I want to associate with.”

Favorite Quote: “Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.”
