Justin & Emily | A wedding at the Merrimon-Wynne in Raleigh, NC

Raleigh, NC wedding photographers: Shelby Photography

The historical Merrimon-Wynne House in downtown Raleigh was built in 1876 by the Chief Justice for the NC Supreme Court, Augustus S. Merrimon.  In 1899, the estate sold to A.F. and Lula B. Page, but shortly after purchasing the home, Lula’s husband passed.  She later married J.S. Wynne of Raleigh.  In 1919, the Wynne’s deeded the house to Peace College, and it became known as “Wynne Hall”  It served as a dormitory until 1934.  In 2008, developers purchased the home and moved it to it’s current site located on the corner of Blount and Polk Streets – The birthplace of Dr. Jane McKimmon who was a leader in home demonstration work for 35 years. In 2013, it was purchased by Heyens Holdings and was restored to it’s original grandeur and now serves as the premier wedding and event location in downtown Raleigh!

I love historical homes and learning the history and story about the house, made it even more special when photographing Justin and Emily’s wedding day!  It was the PERFECT backdrop for Justin & Emily’s romantic, southern wedding.  It’s filled with 5000 square feet of pure charm and elegance and features big, beautiful rooms with large windows that stream the most lovely natural light.  Truly a photographer’s dream!  The Merrimon-Wynne has an amazing grand staircase, original hardwood floors and fire place mantels, hanging chandeliers, and sweeping porches!   The grounds are meticulously landscaped and the Carriage House where Justin and Emily hosted the reception boasted grande chandeliers, exposed beams, and rolling glass doors that open to the lawn.

They shared such a romantic, sweet, first look… I could be biased (because Justin is my nephew),  but it brought me to tears!  Emily was absolutely stunning in her wedding dress and the smile on Justin’s face when he saw his bride was absolutely priceless!

I was obsessed with the color of the groom’s party blue suits coordinated with the  mismatched bridesmaid dresses. If I could choose mismatched bridesmaid dresses for every wedding, I would, because it photographs incredibly!  Justin and Emily’s wedding party not only looked picture perfect, but they were so fun…. love, happiness, and celebration was a definite theme through the day and night!

The images below reveal family and friends that mean the absolute world to me!
